Long time no see

Hello Rio,
Long time no see...  How have you been?
I've been hearing a lot about you in the news lately: A woman as a president, and a war. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting that from you at all. The president woman, yes: I mean, we all know she's not really the president. But a war? really? Did you lost your mind?
I know you're supposed to be pacified until the Olympics, but come on, wasn't there any other way? Does violence always have to be your answer to everything? But now that its over in the Alemao, let's see in a few months if your so-called peace and your social projects there managed to improve the life of the population. I truly hope so. Maybe you did right. I just wished those kids wouldn't have to see even more violence than they did their whole life. You should know the future of your country lies between their hands: they're smart, energetic, full of life and so curious: give them proper schools, give them education and opportunities. They won't disappoint you, trust me. They amazed me. And they're part of you, don't forget it. They might be the most beautiful thing you ever had. Don't let them down and please don't arm them anymore than you did. I heard you're planning on "bringing peace" to Rocinha the way you did in the Alemao: I hope that, by that time, you will have found another way to do so: I don't want my kids to hear any more gunshots. And I want them to be safe and happy, I want them to believe in you and your ability to give them a very bright future.

I might be far from you Rio, but I still think about you a lot. I'm learning a lot here in Paris, hoping I'll be soon able to join you again and share with you what I've been taught about making our world a little bit of a better place.

I truly miss you, Rio.
See you soon.

Rosalie
